Difference Between CV,Boidata & Resume


Here is something that will narrow the pool of long lasting confusion. Many people often use CV, CV, bio-data and resume interchangeably for various document. Nobody care using of any word while applying job. All above words are different with different job category. Let’s look over it for better understanding-
Resume – It means Summary in French language. A simple resume should not be more than two – three page of A4 size. Focus on responsibilities, performance, and experience.Resumes are classified into two types-
  1. Reverse chronological resume- Work experience is sorted chronologically on basis of number of years served to company.
  2. Functional resume- Main focus on technical skills
CV(curriculum vitae)- According to Oxford dictionary, curriculum vitae is defined as a brief account of a person’s education and previous occupations, typically sent with a job application. Curriculum vitae is used in academic circles. It can be used for applying the academic position. In Latin, curriculum vitae means “course of life”.
Bio-data- It’s all about life and work experience, as well as opinions, values, beliefs that reflect back perspective. It’s come into the play when we apply for government jobs, defense jobs in India. This generally helps in giving an image of most likely future behavior based on candidate prior learning history.
One must be aware of using these words to avoid negative impression on recruiter. But at the end the meaning of CV, Resume and bio-data are same but have intricate differences.
